The XoSoft consortium consisted of a well-balanced combination of partners with complementary knowledge areas and skills. The project comprised 9 partners from 7 European countries, including key players from industry and academia. Each partner addressed specific challenges and delivered high quality results, leading to the successful accomplishment of XoSoft.
Fondazione Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia, IT
IIT is the coordinating organisation. It is a scientific and technological institute, which focuses on robotics and cognitive engineering. The departments of IIT involved are in particular, Advanced Robotics (ADVR) and the Center of Micro-BioRobotics (CMBR). Whereas IIT-ADVR will apply its knowledge in robotics and exoskeletons and offer technical support to CMBR and other partners, IIT-CMBR has long experience in the development of smart materials, one of the key points for the XoSoft exoskeleton.
Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, ES
CSIC is a scientific research centre oriented to obtaining new knowledge and technologies in the field of processes, systems and advanced strategies of measurement, inspection, control and actuation. They have previously developed control systems for robotic systems and therefore offer valuable knowledge for the control system in XoSoft.
Saxion University of Applied Science, NL
Saxion is one of the leading players in technological innovations in intensive cooperation with (inter)national industries. With a focus on High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM), Saxion has specialised in nanotechnology, mechatronics, high tech systems and smart materials. They complement the knowledge of IIT-CMBR with the capacity of developing and producing advanced textiles.

Design Factors is part of the Department of Design and Manufacturing Technology (D&MT) and has specific expertise in user centered design, human factors, soft product design and ergonomics and will therefore be mainly involved in the identification of the user needs, the user centered design and iterative development of the product and its service system.

Their broad spectrum provides the institute with an excellent technological infrastructure that enables the scientific staff to engage in numerous application-orientated research activities.
The research team of the Institute of Physiotherapy (ZHAW-IPS) promotes the quality of physiotherapy through its applied research projects, consultancy and training. The primary focus is on physiotherapeutic diagnosis, including use of a movement laboratory, and on studying the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic treatment.
